“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Luke 12:34
A few weeks ago in January, Soul Care partnered with Erin Tarr of Be the Benchmark to do a Word of the Year workshop. The group spent quality time reflecting on questions that helped us think about how to expand our comfort zone and show up as the best versions of ourselves in whatever situations 2020 had in store for us.
But I had already done some thinking and had determined my word of the year to be TREASURE. This word actually came to me in the late fall/early winter and it held firmly as the new year began. Getting the word early has allowed me to really sit with it and share it and refine what it can offer me this year, both personally and through Soul Care.
Treasure resonates with me because it manifests as both a noun and a verb. It reminds me of people and things that can and should be held in high regard, a collection of very precious objects. But it also encompasses the act of noticing worth, of collecting and storing that which is treasured, and deliberately taking action because of the very value that we have for those precious people or things. We are called to both hold tight to and share our treasure.
I’m keeping my word in mind as I think about what to hold dear this year. In my personal life, I am committing to enjoy and embrace the important people in my life and make sure they know how much they mean to me. I’m also treasuring my own self through love, nurture, and care of my body, mind, and soul. And working on literally expanding treasure by focusing on a mindset of abundance.
But I’m also keeping that word in mind as Soul Care enters its first full year of operations. I want to foster a community and create and strengthen connections that lead to meaningful and authentic relationships. I treasure the unique voice and experience and perspective each person in that community will bring. I want to treasure what I’m learning and share that knowledge with you all. And most of all, I want to treasure the experiences that will come this year through Soul Care that will add richness and delight to each of our lives.
I look forward to what treasures 2020 holds for all of us! Drop us a line and let us know what you are treasuring right now.
